Matt Pierri

Hi there! My name is Matt – thanks for visiting my profile.

I'm an Australian lawyer, Rhodes Scholar and Visiting Scholar at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford where I'm researching disability policy. I'm the founder and CEO of SociAbility, and a co-founder of Wheels in Motion and the Oxford Accessibility Project.

I'm passionate about empowering disabled people to enjoy better social inclusion and meaningful equality of opportunity. In particular, I think it's time to change how we perceive, discuss and act towards disability and disabled people. Outside of disability issues, I'm also super interested in the ethical use of AI in the public sector, love travelling, gadgets and foreign languages.

Feel free to check out what I've been up to and what I'm working on now!

My professional background spans journalism, law and policy. Before coming to the UK, I worked as a graduate lawyer in a top-tier commercial law firm in Australia.

I currently work in the disability policy space in the UK and Australia. I'm the founder and CEO of SociAbility, a mobile platform empowering social inclusion through better venue accessibility information. I'm also a co-founder of the Oxford Accessibility Project and a co-founder of Wheels in Motion.

About

I'm an Australian lawyer currently living in London, UK. I am a Visiting Scholar at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford where I'm researching how stereotypes of disability influence policy design and implementation.

I recently completed a MSc in Social Science of the Internet and a Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford, where I was fortunate enough to study as a Rhodes Scholar.

I'm also a social entrepreneur and strongly believe in the power of grassroots movements to change society. I'm the founder and CEO of SociAbility, an award-winning start-up working to empower social inclusion through better venue accessibility information. I'm also the co-founder of the Oxford Accessibility Project, and of Wheels in Motion – an Australian charity working to change societal perceptions of disability and raise funds for those in financial need.

As a wheelchair user, I'm passionate about empowering greater social inclusion and meaningful equality of opportunity for disabled people. I think it's time to change how we perceive, discuss and act towards disability and disabled people.

Outside of disability issues, I'm also super interested in the ethical use of AI in the public sector, love travelling, gadgets and foreign languages. Most recently, I was very humbled to be named a nominee for the 2020 Young Australian of the Year in Victoria.
